collected goslings |
30 June 2024 |
Nico van den Brink has planned a new experiment to study the effect of mercury on behaviour and the immune system of barnacle goose goslings. We had permission to collect 16 newborn goslings and we have done this yesterday. Hatching was late this year. Today we are imprinting the goslings to the two PhD students who will do the analysis.
Matteo Schiavinato will do the behavioural expperiments (above) Shivani Ronanki will study the immune system (below)
Nico is keeping an eye on the imprinting. The first couple of days in life, the goslings will learn who their parents are and will follow them the rest of the year. That is why the researchers are sitting with the goslings as much time as possible.
