Starting the gosling experiment

This year is a late year, with low number of nesting seabirds. Goose nests are hatching, and we go to Storholmen to collect 16 goslings for an experiment on mercury exposure. The experiment is designed by Nico van den Brink of Wageningen University. Only in the Arctic, we can find levels of mercury still low enough to act as a control. Nico is here with two of his PhDs and Shivani Ronanki made the pictures below.
I am giving the goslings a webtag, to know from which nest they are. A webtag is a small metal plate with a unique number which we pierce through the web of the foot. It is the only way of marking a golsing which will still grow a lot.
