Station leader NAMASTE I represent Cochin University of Science and Technology, Cochin, India. My primary interest is food borne pathogens in foods of animal origin, their survival kinetics in natural waters and drug resistance profiles. I am also very much interested in microbial diversity, especially bacterial diversity. I am here to look at the heterotrophic bacterial diversity in the water and sediment samples from Kongsfjord and their contribution to phosphorus cycle. The hypothesis need to be tested is 'whether changes in microbial diversity and community dynamics could be used as a predictive model for climate change'. This needs a long term study and some of us from Cochin University of Science and Technology is likely to come back again. It was great interacting with the scientific community at Ny-Alesund. I welcome you all to Cochin (in Kerala)and Cochin University of Science and Technology.
