sampling microbes with Gomathy | 2 July 2026 |
Gomathy from the Himadri station of India is studying the interaction between roots and microbes. She was sampling different plant species and I gave her some books to identify the species out of my station library. When I was on Storholmen I saw some flowering plants which are not easy to find near Ny-Ålesund and I had sent her some pictures of these flowering plants. She asks me to bring her to the island. Mahesh, an atmospheric scientist is helping her and taking pictures. It is the first time they are wearing a survival suit and go in a zodiac on the fjord.

A couple of days later, she sent me a picture of a culture. In India she will use DNA techniques to identify the type of fungi. |
