pink x-mas on spitsbergen | 24 December 2021 |
At 3:00 o'clock on Christmas Morning, Fieke Rader, working on the French-German station AWIPEV, is on the Dutch radio NP01 explaining about how people are celebrating Christmas in the dark Arctic. She mentions the pink light which is visible on the horizon, coming from a reflection of sunlight on stratospheric clouds. This is the first time since 2015, that the sun below the horizon produces this reflection. Greg Pixophil made the picture above and posted it on Facebook. It is another spectacular light effect, like the northern light, in the dark polar winter In the video below, Fieke tells her story in Dutch.
