comparing grazed and ungrazed

12 July 2026

Daga and me have visited the exclosures which are on the east side of Solvatnet. This area is usually heavy grazed by geese. By making a comparison inside the exclosure and in the open and grazed control plot next to the exclosure, we can study vegetation change caused by geese.
Below, we show pairs of all six exclosures (numbered from north to south) and their grazed partner plot on a picture. The pictures are originally bigger and by clicking on a piucture, you get the full-sized picture in a new page.

All grazed plots show droppings, despite the low number of geese this year. Exclosed plot 2 and 3 have almost a grass monoculture. Exclosed plots 1, 4 and 6 have more variation in plant species and less grass. Plot 5 is in between these categories.
