We first mapped the nests on two islands and read all rings of the pairs defending a nest. Now we check hatch dates and nest defense by visiting all nests every other day.
There is a lot of predation by polar bears.
We will not go to any island if a polar bear is seen on that island.
If we land on Storholmen there is always at least one other Norwegian team checking common eider nests or arctic and great skua nests.
Today we find hatching goose nests. Make sure you have the sound on, when you watch the videos. | |
Not everybody is happy with our presence. A pair of arctic skuas tries to scare us away. With our search for goose nests, we are obvious close to their nest.  | |
