4th and last fjordcount | 29 July 2026 |
For the fourth time, we can go around the inner fjord thanks to a team of AWIPEV. Rey Mourot and Marc Zetec run the boat for us.![]() On deck, the three students, Douwe counting on starboard, Sander on port side and Jelle is writing their observations down. Maarten uses his GPS-device to make short transects of our trip. They will change several times during the trip their tasks. ![]() Not to much ice on the east side of the fjord, but later we cannot go to the front of the Conway glacier and have to go around Gerdøya. Each trip is different. This trip the number of foraging arctic terns is more than earlier.
A beautiful view on the tre kroner, these mountains are characteristic when entering the fjord. In winter they are covered with snow, except the steepest parts: the crowns. The mountains in front look high but are about 640 meters high while the kroner are more than 1200 meters high. They stick out and are named from left to right Svea, Nora and Dana, after the three nordic countries.
