Met een lezing aan boord mogen we naar het gletsjerfront met één van de grote schepen van Ocean Wide Expeditions.
De wind staat vol op de gletsjer en al het afkalvend ijs blijft voor de gletsjer liggen. Het zoete water dat door de gletsjer sijpelt
komt hier als een grote bron aan het oppervlak. Het zoete water loopt in het zoute fjord en stijgt naar het oppervlak.
Met deze opwaartse stroom komen kleine beestjes mee naar boven. Op de grote foto zie je de plek van deze bron.
Het opwellende water houdt de plek ijsvrij. Het water kleurt rood van het opgeloste leem. En de drieteenmeeuwen vinden er hun voedsel.
