Robert Blaauw is the Executive Director for RJBC Arctic & Energy, advising the public and private sector. Robert is a guest lecturer in Groningen University and is Chairman of the Polar Research Infrastructure Committee with the NWO (the Dutch National Science Organisation). Prior to this, Robert managed Shell’s Arctic Theme (technical, social, environmental, policy and communications) and acted as Arctic Ambassador for Shell up to mid 2016. This includes working with a diverse set of partners (Aspen Institute, World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on the Arctic and NGO’s) and trade associations including IOGP. At IOGP Robert chaired the Arctic Committee which is dedicated to improving global industry standards in the Arctic, cooperating with many parties including the Arctic Council, its working groups and task forces. Robert originally joined Royal Dutch Shell in The Netherlands in 1980. He started in technical and operational roles and thereafter moved to commercial and general management in Shell operating companies in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Robert then moved to Australia to become Shell’s General Manager Exploration and Production and Joint Venture Operations. In 2002, he relocated to Shell’s corporate headquarters in The Netherlands, where he was Business Development Manager for the Caspian, Middle East and Russia. Robert grew up in The Hague and studied at the Technical University Delft where he received an MSc. in Civil Engineering.
